  • Friday, 30 January at 6.30 pm:  Brigid the Bard Festival 2026 Opening Night Concert  - poetry and prose readings, drama, song and music celebrating Irish-Australian female creativity in tribute to Brigid, ancient Celtic pagan goddess of earth, healing and poetry, featuring performances by Aine de Paor, Anne Casey, Rosie McDonald and Jacqui McPhee.   • Saturday, 31 January at 3.00 pm:  Poetry Sydney Heroic Horizons: Celtic Diasporas Poetry Event  - showcases four women poets whose work interrogates the cultural, emotional, and historical legacies of Irish and Scottish migration to Australia. Through poetry and performance, Linda Adair, Anne Casey, Annemaree Daziel and Melita Rowston trace diasporic journeys shaped by displacement, endurance, inheritance, and imagination, situating Celtic migration within the broader context of colonial Australian history, while acknowledging the complex realities of colonial presence on unceded Aboriginal lands. This event is presented as part of the Brigid the Bard Festival 2026 by Poetry Sydney in partnership with the Prankqueans, the Government of Ireland, Waverley Council, the Consulate General of Ireland, Sydney, and the Irish Support Agency NSW.   • Wednesday, 4 February at 6.30 pm: Sappho Poetry Open Stage  -Poetry nights are held on the first Wednesday of every month (except January) and have become renowned for their  welcoming atmosphere and line-up of well-known poets. Supported by University of Technology Sydney Creative Writing,  this event series is hosted by poets and UTS creative writing teachers, Dave Drayton, Sarah Attfield and Anne Casey.  The 2026 events program kicks off with a series of Open Stage events featuring open mics only, with feature poets to return later in the year. Poets at all stages - from absolute beginners to established - are invited (and warmly encouraged!) to sign up for the open mic roster at the venue from 6.30 pm on the night. There will be a limited number of two-minute reading slots available. The event kicks off at 7.00 pm. All welcome! Venue: Sappho Books, 51 Glebe Point Road, Glebe. Info: www.sapphobooks.com
